nutty treats: awesome peanut butter cookies

peanut cookies 1

Yet again I find myself flagging up someone else's recipe. Ho hum. Still, I guess that's what blogging is partly all about, isn't it? Sharing the good stuff. Consider it my good deed for the week. Well, I will, anyway.

Peanuts and/or peanut butter have been a lifelong love of mine. As a kid I used to eat so much peanut butter that my grandmother used to shriek 'have any more of that and you'll turn into a peanut!' whenever I went near a jar. Clearly, the thought of becoming a little legume did nothing to put me off. And, just to prove that grandmothers aren't always right (since when did your hair turn curly when you ate the bread crusts, for example?), I'm still very much here in human form. And still eating peanut butter.

So... peanut butter and cookies. A good match for me. Love peanut butter, love cookies. With one caveat. The cookies have to be the soft, chewy kind. And not the kind that go as splat as a pancake on baking (yes, I did mean 'splat'. Conveys so much more than 'flat', don't you think?).

In my experience of cookie recipes, many simply don't live up to the hype. I'm pleased to say that these do. First posted by Patricia, over at Technicolor Kitchen (a blog well worth following, particularly if you like baking), her recipe promised everything I look for. Happily, it delivered.

Real cookies, with substance. What more can you ask for?

Oh, perhaps a glass of cold milk. ;-)

mmm..they look lovely. I like that you can see the sugariness. I would have to eat them all myself tho as the boys don't like PB. Oh well!

You can't imagine the happiness I feel when someone cooks/bakes one of the recipes from my blog - to me, it's the ultimate compliment. The reason I started the blog was to share recipes - I find it wonderful.

Thank you for your kind words and I'm glad you liked the cookies! They look so good!

I go on record as saying that peanut butter cookies are the ultimate for me with a tall glass of cold milk.

Why does it have to be a tall glass of milk - must be missing something?! Only recently got into peanut butter never had it as a kid, I'll blame my Mother

Sig - do I detect a certain wistfulness there? ;)

catty - yes, throw in the peanut butter. Do it

Claire - as the boys don't like it, then treat yourself. Fancy having no competition for a plate of yummy cookies...

Patricia - lovely to see you here, and you're most welcome!

Val - I must remember to put the milk in the photos next time ;)

Beth - I guess because a small glass just isn't enough...

I love peanut butter and we always have jars of the stuff - smooth, crunchy, the natural kind, but also skippy and jif. I miss all the peanut butter stuff from back home. Especially my dad...if you ever went downstairs late at night, he would be in his robe, spooning mouthfuls of peanut butter right out of the jar. These look so delicious.

I know someone in my house who would adore these.

I am a latecomer to peanut butter - never loved it as a child and we never really had much in the house. These days...it ends up in everything. Agreed about splat-flat peanut butter cookies - they're not welcome! The softer and chewier the better.

I love Patricia's blog too- one of the first I ever followed. I recall eating natural peanut butter (the Philippine one is quite different - very sweet but very very good) off the spoon too as a child, but never so excessive as to be threatened metamorphosis. From the recipe's proportions and of course your endorsement, these do sound very peanutty indeed - just the way they should be.

The only thing that could make that cookie better is some dark choc chips!

gastro - your dad definitely had the right idea ;)

mangocheeks - go make their day

Laura - you were deprived of pB as a kid? The horror! ;)

Manggy - I think Patricia's was one of the first I followed, too. Then forgot for a while - now happily rediscovered

Foodycat - or white choc? Or milk choc? Any would be good, I think

Oh, these look so good. I love peanut butter cookies, but don't see them around too often. In america my favourite cookie is the Nutter Butter, a peanut butter sandwich cookie.

Oh those do look awesome! Great cookies and I love that beautiful glass dish you served them up on.

Yes, a chewy peanut butter cookie is the best kind! I used to not love peanut butter cookies as a kid, but I think it's because most of them I ate were hard as rocks.

These look great and I love chewy cookies. I like that dish you've got them presented on too. Off to check out Patricia's blog too.
