I was thinking of growing blueberries but didn't because I wasn't sure how successful it would be. How do you grow them? are they in a tub? is it easy to do?

Sorry about all the questions but I love blueberries and would really like to grow my own.

Hi Sam - bought a couple of v small bushes, stuck them in a tub each, watered them regularly, put them in a sunny spot, watched them grow! So I guess I'd say it's easy.

Lucky you! I have been thinking about getting some fruit bushes. I would want to grown them in tubs as well. When do you plant them?

Glad it's not just us! We harvested our one and only ripe blueberry yesterday, along with one cherry tomato and two radishes.

Like your blog very much, a good new find.

Best regards

Hi Marie - I think I got mine about a couple of months back. They didn't look too promising on arrival - I almost sent them back - but they've done just fine.

Helen T - thank you! Nice to see you here.

We've got about 8 ripe blueberries at the moment; the radishes have all been eaten; and we're waiting (seems like forever) for the tomatoes to redden. In the meantime, we're overrun with courgettes, lettuce, chard, caulis, spring onions... Not that I'm complaining!

Oooh, looks promising! I'm impressed ^__^.

You grow your own blueberries?? I am very jealous - looks wonderful.

Color me jealous too! You could make a fortune importing those things here, heh heh :)

Indigo - we're up to about 8 ripe ones now...

Cakelaw - it really is pretty straightforward. Plonk 'em in sunshine, water them from time to time, and watch 'em grow!

Manggy - I wish...! It won't be a bumper harvest this year - the first year is always scanty, apparently - but next year, who knows?

Love blueberries. When I was growing up in New England my friend had loads of blueberry bushes in her backyard woods. We used to go into the woods and play and when our mum's called for us to come in and go home, we'd reason that we could resist and survive on the blueberries and play for longer... fond memories! xxx

I think we in the UK are still are bit new to blueberries, so no such memories for me! Love your cute tale, though.

I think what I like most about them is their many uses - since they lack the acidity of other berries, they're rather easier to pair with other things.
