A couple of weeks ago, just puny little seedlings. Now, a bit of warmth, sunshine, and the odd watering later...
l-r: lollo rosso, chard, unnamed (I forget) lettuce, calabrese. Somewhere in the middle, but somehow managing to avoid being snapped on camera, is some cauliflower. Oh, and some leeks. Honest.
l-r: parsnips, courgettes
tomatoes and chilli plants
For someone who's never grown anything since mustard and cress in primary school, this is all a bit of a revelation to me. Slow learner, y'see.
And now, suddenly, I find myself looking forward to the prospect of home-grown salads, and various other seasonal veg, plus endless herbs (another photo, another time), and chillis. Fab. I can hardly wait.
The only blot on the horizon is that we booked to go away for 2 weeks in the middle of June. Which is usually a good thing. Now, I'm worrying that there won't be anything worth eating by the time we get back, and that weeds and triffids will have taken over in our absence....

It looks lovely! I wish I had the green fingers, real interest and patience to do this. I don't. But I am contemplating planting radish seeds in a pot though.
Two weeks holiday, ask a friendly neighbour or a trusted friend (or I'm assuming that there'll be a cat sitter involved...) to water them a bit. They should be alright, if it's not a whole lot of sun.
Ah, that's why you have to bribe a good friend/neighbor! ;)
Looks like you have a green thumb. I only have a citrus shrub and a basil plant to take care of, and I think I managed to burn the latter to a crisp :(
Looking good! I can't wait to see some 'home grown' recipes!
These look wonderfully healthy!
This is my first summer growing stuff too. It's a amazing how quickly you learn, but the thought of going away and leaving them all for a fortnight is a bit scary isn't it?
brilliant! Looks like you have quite a bit of space there too. I'm cramming things onto my balcony.Got tomatoes, chillies, salad leaves, padron peppers, radishes and herbs so far. I just hope I can look after them properly - growing more than ever this year.
A nice garden! Yes, it is already summer! I love that time of the year...
Cheers,
Rosa
Just look how everything is growing on in your garden. It's looking good I must say!
Your garden looks nice. I honestly have never left my garden for that long. I don't travel much. But I think it will survive, you will just have a lot of weeding to catch up on when your return.
Oh, I miss gardening so much. I think next year I'm going to hunt down a patch of ground and beg people to let me plant a small one somewhere.
Good luck with keeping everything alive and well when you are gone on your trip!
Pia - radishes are great to grow, as they get going really quickly!
Mark - I think we've just been lucky with the weather, to be honest!
Sam - will do my best...
Sophie - they do! And they're continuing that way, too. Hope your things are growing just as well.
Helen - a balcony is as good a place as any. Aside from the 'veg patch', we've got pots stuffed with herbs, radishes, spring onions.. You name it!
Rosa - I love this time of year, too. As do the plants, evidently!
Rosie - thank you
Charlotte - I think you're right. That's the bit I'm not looking forward to!
Sarah - aw, I feel for you. Someone, somewhere will have a patch for you, I'm sure.
Looks lovely. Where are you going on in June? Have a good time :) x
Looking good! I'm proud of my little patch, you can hear the veg and fruit groaning with desire with the sun they are getting!
Cheers
David
Girl WtGT - off to Scotland (Loch Tay), where I hope the weather will be equally as good as it is now!
David - I know what you mean! And it's just so much fun seeing them grow day by day.
Great to see you salads and vegies thriving! Thanks for visiting my blog :-)
Celia
Looking at the tomato plants and the shallow dirt (bag) they're planted in. Do they do well? I mean, is that dirt enough for them to grow well and produce fruit?
