another secret...

Now that the season of salads is (just about) upon us, a word to the wise....

This stuff...

Nunez de prado 1

... (olive oil, in case you were wondering) will transform your salads into something truly wonderful. I wouldn't recommend it for cooking purposes, but for adding a finishing touch to a dish, it's absolutely the dog's dangly bits. It hails from a family-run estate in Andalucia, is organic, stone-milled, and has an unusually low acidity, giving it a fabulously smooth taste. What's not to like? You can read more about it here.

OK? Got it? Take a snap, and take it with you so that you can identify it easily next time you're out and about...

Nunez de prado 2

And no, they're not paying me. I'm just trying to find something to blog about while the kitchen work is STILL going on, and so now seemed as good a time as any. I use it all the time, and discovered it at my local fave deli/cafe, The Fat Delicatessen (who also use it all the time and were good enough to let me into their secret).

So there you go. Another secret. Just how nice am I??

The stress must be getting to me.

I've never heard of it, but how I can I ignore such a glowing recommendation? I'm not going to complain about your secret-sharing...

Never seen it before, but I also didn't know what it was until I saw the olive branches on it. I mean I assumed it was olive oil, but it doesn't say that somewhere on the bottle? Must be real fancy...

It's too bad you still don't have that kitchen! But I know from experience when we moved into my new house about 13 years ago, we had tons of construction projects for the house, and no matter how long they tell you it will take, it usually takes about 2-3 times longer. In fact, just recently we finished redoing the portico outside the house to fix leaks through the columns. They spent 3 months tearing down and rebuilding it only to find out that it still leaks and has to be redone. Glad I'm living at school =).

You could always take Naomi's advice (a comment from the PBE#2 post): "Forkful - I dare you to submit PB on toast, or even bread - do you even have a toaster at the moment? How do you live? What about a statement piece - a jar of PB with a spoon, it would certainly rate highly on the prep time criteria....."

I'm not an olive or olive oil kind of person - quite the opposite really - but this sounds really interesting, might just give it a try, if I can find it here. Perhaps I'll soon be a converted oliveoillover?

Oi, I thought we weren't going to mention the K word! :P I'll assume dogs dangly bits would be good in salad O_o Thanks for the recommendation!

Yes, but what kind of oil is it? I have never heard of a "free run" before. Is that some kind of nut?

I kid, I kid. Good on you for posting anything, when you so clearly have a Get Out of Jail Free card.

michelle - I wish I knew. By the time EVERYTHING (inc new floor) is done, it'll prob be end June

Excellent, thanks for the tip. I am also SO wanting to visit the Fat Delicatessen at the moment, it's next on my list in fact. Great to hear it's as good as I want it to be.

Thanks for the tip!I'm always on the look out for great salad additions. And it is that time year again swimsuit season. But worse for me, I surf and the wet suit hides nothing.

I saw it one time at whole foods and had to pick it up to see exactly what it is. It is quite expensive, but like you said, for finishing touches, it must be good. Will give it a try. One day.

Great post! High quality olive oil drizzled on food like salads and pasta really make the dish.

In new house with half a kitchen, no freezer, no oven, no microwave, no utility and a dining room full of boxes with the utility in them:( You're too funny by the way, I love the little messages:)

While I don't doubt the wonderfulness of the olive oil featured here, I'm not sure I would generally eat things that one could compare to a "dog's dangly bits". ;-)

I hope they have this somewhere. I live in NYC so I would think there would be some store that would carry it. Good olive oil goes a long way on a salad.

I've just run out of my good oil for salads so I'll keep an eye out for this brand. I also love Domaines Bunan. Thanks for the tip!
